Roy Philp (1924-2006) Mid 20th C Oil Painting Farm and Geese in the Devon Sun

£165.00

Roy Philp (1924-2006). 20th century oil painting on board. Devon artist, painting is in its original linen slipped frame.
Glorious sunny scene of geese in a farmyard setting, with a backdrop of hilly fields and stone farm buildings. Signed front lower right. Image measures 39.3 x 49.5 cm, frame 48.5 x 59 cm.
The frame aperture is very slightly too wide for the painting but it can be manually positioned once in its hung wall space to avoid a slim gap being visible. The painting on its board could also easily be popped out of the frame and be reframed or have a metal hanger affixed to the back and hung unframed to give it a more contemporary look (we can send an adhesive one with it if you request it in a message to us at point of order).
Good and clean, with bright colour.  Artist's label verso.

Biography researched and compiled by MastheadArt:
Born John Roy Philp in Liskeard, Cornwall in 1924, Roy lived just on the north side of Plymouth city for the latter part of his life. As an artist he was particularly gifted in achieving superb light in many of his paintings, he clearly enjoyed painting sunny rural scenes. Exhibited in the 1960s with the East Cornwall Society of Artists, indeed in their 1966 summer exhibition the Cornish Guardian newspaper reported "Among the most favoured paintings are by Claude Kitto and Roy Philp". Also featuring in their 1962 exhibition, Roy's work was shown alongside Sybil Mullen Glover and James Dashwood, and again in the 1963 and 1965 shows. He had previously exhibited work in Plymouth as early as 1948 with the Swarthmore Sketching Group at Plymouth Art School.
